The Costa Smeralda

The Monti di Mola, which means in Galluran stone grinder mountains, form a rather wide coastal area, better known as Costa Smeralda, located in the Arzachena's municipality. This stretch of coast is particularly famous for its numerous beaches and coves of exceptional beauty.

It is thanks to Prince Karim Aga Khan that this territory, until 50 years ago almost completely uninhabited, was developed from the touristic view point.

Porto Cervo, with the square and its famous shops and eateries, is the center. No less important are the coast's other towns , such as Porto Rotondo, Portisco Marina, Liscia di Vacca, Arzachena and Cannigioine and residential areas Romazzino, Cala di Volpe and Piccolo Pevero.

The most famous beaches, just to name a few are: Beach of Prince, Capriccioli, Cala Granu, Gulf di Marinella.

In Costa Smeralda , there is also the International Center for Research on dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphin Research Institute.
